Review: Charmed by Cambria Hebert

I read Recalled a few months ago and I absolutely loved it. It had one of those endings that you weren't sure to be happy or sad. I have so much respect for an author that can bring out such strong emotions like that from a book. I was so excited to learn about Charmed from her website.

Anna from Read Between the Lines  and I actually had a conversation about this. I was telling her how much I loved Recalled but was kinda bummed that it wasn't steamier. That was a mistake on my part since I just automatically assumed since it was NA. Anyway, Anna was saying that all of her other books are YA and she didn't think she'd ever write something that steamy. Well, Anna, we were dead wrong LOL. The romance in Charmed robbed me of breath. Seriously! Charming is a force to be reckoned with. That man is so sexy that it's sinful. The best part is that he wasn't the only star of the story. Frankie is my girl! She is so funny and I had a blast reading this story. It was amazing to see Charming turn into the man that he is in the end. I'm also glad that it didn't end like Recalled. I think I would have really punched Cambria next time I saw her LOL.

It was great to see a different Death Escort at work since Recalled touched on all the basics. The characters were so different from one book to the next.  The best part is that book ended satisfactorily but open ended, like there could be another story.  I don't know how she would swing that one but I'd so be down to read that!

Review: Tales of Aradia the Last Witch Volume 1 by L.A. Jones

I received this book to give an honest review.

This is a perfect YA read I mean there is no bad language, no sex. Just a good ol' story line with a teen crush that is almost like Twilight in a way. Seeing as how there is a vampire, werewolf and a girl.

Rai-Rai's (also known as Aradia) parents found her and ended up adopting her. Early on that realized she was different from all the other children her age. She has powers and abilities that no one else has. When Aradia and her family move to Salem things become almost unreal. There is a "hidden" race that lives with the humans and most of them live all in Salem. While living in Salem there is a murder dubbed the "Vampire Murderer" and Aradia's father is there to try and solve the crime. With Aradia's help they figure out who is committing the crimes but will it be too late for Aradia?

With this going on Aradia does not know she is of the hidden race until towards the end. Even then she is still not sure about it all. The ending does have it where you are going to want to read more as you want to know well is she going to be hunted? Will her powers grow? What about the relationship she has with Dax? This is one book you are going to want to get your hands on.

Review & Giveaway: One Tiny Secret by Adam Kunz

I thought I'd give myself half a day to compose myself to give this book the review it deserves. I'm still at a loss for words. I bought this book on sale because Raine Thomas would hype it like nobody's business! I trust her judgement since her book is also amazeballs. Anyhoo...I'm also kind of a cover whore. I will buy a book solely based on the cover. Call me shallow. The thing that drew me in was the earrings she wears, skull and crossbones. I almost always wear some accessory or clothing with skulls. I had to get this book. It's almost as if it were calling my name!

I'll admit it was a slow start for me. I didn't know where is was going to lead me. Once you get down to the good stuff, you'll be hooked! I'm not usually the thriller type of gal unless it's heavy on the romance. What can I say? I'm a romance junkie! This book did have romance in it but it wasn't in your face. It was very tasteful. Sometimes I find that romance amongst teenagers isn't written with the teen in mind. They're impulsive little creatures and usually wear their heart on their sleeves.

Adam frickin' nailed it with these characters! Dani...what can I say about this girl!? She is my kindred spirit! Any girl that refers to the bitches in school as the twat squad is awesome in my book! She was so likeable. She was snarky and downright hilarious. And Parker...you couldn't help but love him despite all his faults. When push came to shove, he was there for Dani in a heartbeat.

I have a really bad tendency to look further down the page as I'm reading. I'm not kidding, it's terrible. I had to physically hold my hand over the pages as I continued as to not spoil the thrill. One Tiny Secret was truly and exhilarating tale of WHODUNNIT? I would almost forget to breath and the anticipation was a nail biter! I'd try to follow the clues and was left with one big mind fuck. I had my suspicions but it made it seem like everyone was the suspect. I'm completely blown away.

Sometimes I read books and get inspired to make something that reminds me of the book. I've made this skull and crossbones beaded fabric bookmark. Yes, that's a mouthful. I'm going to give away this bookmark AND a red Converse shoe key chain. Each winner will be gifted a copy of One Tiny Secret from Amazon or  B&N.

Don't judge by the crappy photo quality..it's an iPhone photo lol

Review: Ceaseless by Abbi Glines

Buy-book-from-Amazon-button Add-to-Goodreads-button

I've mad it known before that I have a legitimate fear of sequels and any books following. it gives me crazy anxiety just thinking about it. Existence was phenomenal and I read Predestined when it first came out. It's no surprise that I dragged my feet on this one. My heart was beating a mile a minute just thinking about starting this book. Thank goodness the author is fantastic. I fell in love with Dank all over again! It was hard to see Dank hurting over Pagan not remembering him. I knew there was no way another soul can compete with the love that they had. I thought the story was going to go sooo differently. I'm glad that Pagan kept her smart mouth. That was always my favorite thing about her. And seriously?! Leif is becoming the bane of my existence. I seriously just want to punch him in the face! Gee and I can tag team him! It was great to see them fall for each again without all the doom and gloom.

I'm so sad that it is over. I almost don't want to believe it. This is why I hate reading a series. I'm getting all weepy eyed and it's all your fault, Abbi! I will miss these characters so freaking much! By the way, if you haven't noticed, I'm on an Abbi Glines Bender! That's right, I'm reading every since one of her books this month. It's been way overdue. Not doing too bad considering I've read 2 of her books in 3 days. That's unheard of for me!

Review: The Vincent Brothers by Abbi Glines

Buy-book-from-Amazon-button Add-to-Goodreads-button

Oh, how I've missed my Vincent Boys! The Vincent Boy's was one of my very first indie books...well, when it was still indie. I stayed up all night reading that delicious morsel! Why the hell did I just get to The Vincent Brothers when I've had it since it came out. Shame on me! I was left with a bitter taste in my mouth after the The Vincent Boys. Yes I loved the story, but my heart broke for Sawyer. He deserved so much better than Ash's cheating ass! As you can tell, I wasn't much of a fan of Ashton. Beau on the other hand..yummy! I tolerated her because of him. Anyway, back to the brothers.

I'm so sorry, Beau baby, but Sawyer has stolen my heart! That boy is sinful! I would have been putty in his hands. If you thought Beau was sexy, you don't even know! Best was to describe Sawyer would be **panty dropper** Yeah, I said that. Deal with it. He does a complete turn around in this book. No longer is he that perfectionist that needs to have every aspect of his life planned out. He is so drool worthy! Lana is kinda cool. She's no longer that shy cousin of Ashton's. She grew into her skin and she wasn't that whiny. Huge plus in my book. Her only downfall was that she was too forgiving. I would have made his ass beg. I wasn't sure if this book was technically YA or NA. It was racy in that tasteful kinda way. It will get your heart pumping!

Review: God Particle by Toby Tate

Add-to-Goodreads-buttonBuy-book-from-Amazon-button

Adopted by scientific genius parents, Chloe herself is a prodigy and already enrolled in MIT by age 16. Though 16, Chloe is mature and a likeable character. While she lives in the States attending college, her parents live in Switzerland doing their various research projects. Her dad discovers a particle and invention that thrusts the family into a sci-fi drama and run for their lives. Her dad disappears and her best friend ends up pregnant.

The side plot of her best friend being pregnant sits stagnant until the end. Due to all the events between the start and finish of the novel, Chloe has matured and is able to offer more support to her best friend. Still, I felt this side plot was a little confusing in its role in the main story, though it does not take away from the fun of the story.

Chloe rushes back and forth between the U.S. and Switzerland. To find her dad, she connects herself to her dad’s invention and to direct contact with the particle. There, she meets an entity named "Ben" who educates her about “Mal” who has entered our world to basically take it over. Ben hops a ride into Chloe’s head while Mal travels the world causing havoc as he hops from one body to the next. The entities are able to transfer bodies merely by touch, and after one fumbled attempt at trying to catch Mal, the story rolls into a nonstop, time traveling adventure as everyone tries to stop Mals’ nutty plan.

Fast paced with likeable characters, I finished this story in a few hours. The scientific sci-fi elements left me scratching my head, but the author ties them in enough to make sense to the reader.heather

Source: Reviewer Purchase

I'm having conflicted feelings about this book. While I loved the story, I felt a huge disconnect with the characters. The two main characters, Karis and Brady, just lacked depth. Please don't throw things at me. I wanted to love them, I did. I can't force it. I didn't hate them, but I didn't love them. Call it indifference, if you will. There were a few characters I liked, but they didn't get enough play.

Fade to black romance...I'm not usually a fan. I knew before starting this that it was a fade to black. I get it. I didn't expect the romance to be to bland. There was only a small portion of that build up that I love. The rest was kinda like "hey I'm here," but it just fell flat.

The story was kick ass! Different supernatural words existing with access to each through portals was frickin' cool! I almost want to call them different species, but that doesn't sound politically correct. Maybe the Syrenae...they were a weird bunch. But how cool would it be to grow a mermaid tail in water?! I'd totally dig that.  I understand that it is a series, but it seems the end was cut too short. I will probably read the book again in the future. Who knows, maybe my brain is so flustered that I couldn't give this book the rating it deserves.  Oh, and the cover, SPOT ON!! I love when you can feel the cover in the story.

M.R. Polish was born in Idaho, a long, long, long, maybe not that long time ago.... Writing has always been there for her. Growing up, her mind was filled with stories, some she shared and others she filed away to write down later in life. It wasn't until 2011 that she decided to publish her stories for everyone to enjoy. Her first award and when writing became more than just an idea was in the 5th grade. She won the scary story contest for the school newspaper. It is one story she still has tucked away for memories. Her teacher told her she could be anything she wanted and that she had a talent for writing, being creative and drawing people into her stories. M.R. took that to heart and continued to write, although mostly in secret until recent years.

Now you can find her enjoying life with her family - wrangling her four kids, setting traps in the house with toys for unsuspecting victims (aka, her husband) and writing down all her crazy and fun stories.

Can you say yummy?! I was messing around on Facebook a few weeks ago and asked for a vampire book suggestion. My lovely author friend, Megan D. Martin, suggested that I read A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. I should have clarified that I wanted a male vampire, but oh well LOL. I very much enjoyed this book. It wasn't one of those books where I thought "oh man, I need to finish reading this ASAP." I consider this one of my "leisure" books. And by leisure, I mean it took me a damn month to read it. There's something about those tiny paperbacks that make it damn near impossible for me to read in one sitting. I'll admit that it felt good to take my time reading a book. I'd never get any reviews done if I did that.

Moving on...it was definitely one of those books where the main characters shouldn't be together by their species standard. I mean hellloooo, vampires and werewolves don't mix. This book throws all sorts of monkey wrenches at you. I only started reading adult romances this past year. I was totally on the YA kick. I read 1 erotica and said this isn't for me. I was just reading the wrong kind. This was TASTY!! Lachlain is seriously a brute and I freakin love it! Rightfully so though since he's a Lykae(werewolf.) Emma was a little wish-washy for me. It's like she couldn't decide if she wanted to be a bad ass or a whiny pussy. Just saying...

Review: The Year of the Great Seventh by Teresa Orts

Sophie has always felt out of step — an outsider, even amongst friends in her high school with all the hype about celebrity culture. Her life in L.A. seems to have been already written for her, but when her junior year starts, it all takes a drastic turn. When she crosses paths with the school's heartthrob, Nate Werner, they fall for each other in a way neither can understand. What they don’t know is that by giving in to their desires, they are unlocking an ancient Egyptian prophecy that threatens to return Earth to the dark ages.

To undo the curse, Nate and Sophie embark on an adventure that takes them across the country. But their quest is not only to save the world as they know it. It is also a fight for their very survival. Behind the scenes, there are those that are counting on them to fail.

Source: PDF, provided by author for review

Review: First of all, this book should be read by a younger teen set, or adults who enjoy a lighter YA fantasy storyline. The main character, Sophie, is a likeable character. What irked me a bit was when she tossed her hard work, determination, and goals of getting into college on scholarship for a boy. The guy is the typical heart throb with some emo tendencies, and pushes her away constantly for the majority of the book.

The plotline is very original, but I felt like others readers' reviews suggest, the story should be edited of excess details. It tends to slow the story down and take away from the main plot.

Dividing the book into three parts, the introduction of Sophie, her friends, and Nate is easy to follow and sets a good tone for the story.

The middle of the story drags for me! It started with Sophie slogging into despair, losing all interest in life, and whining about a lost love. Understandable given she is 16, but where did all her drive go?! By the time they arrive in New York to try and solve the mystery, and her/Nate's possible doom, I wanted to yell at them to get on with it already!

Now the last few chapters had a great climatic end. I had to reread a few parts of the tie in to Egyptian history, curses, and how the "prophecy" was to end. I blame that more on my fast reading than the author. The author leaves a good cliffhanger for book #2 where I hope the storyline will be more action filled and focused on their survival of the unknown, and not bogged down with so many extraneous details.

Review: Loving Liberty by Belinda Boring

Liberty Montgomery is many things:
A dutiful daughter.
Perfect wife-in-training.
Easy to manipulate.
Compliant.

But secretly she wants more.

For years, Liberty has dreamed of a life filled with opportunities—a life where she makes the decisions, living by her own rules. Unfortunately, her parents have other plans for her, ones that involve her submission and total obedience. Every attempt to break free from their control is met with threats, leaving her feeling trapped. Just when all seems hopeless, Liberty meets Oliver Nichols. With just two words, be brave, he stirs up her secret longings for more . . . friendship, fun, and independence. He almost has her believing her dreams are possible.

However, taking a stand can be terrifying when you’ve spent your entire life pleasing others. Are some chances worth taking? What would she risk for freedom?

Source: eArc provided for free in exchange for an honest review

Woah! How in the world can a book be so sexy without the sex? It baffles my mind but it's possible. Trust me, it just happened! And my reading rut...gone! This book had me all sorts of worked up. Poor Liberty was so sheltered and living the way her parents wanted her to live. I felt the urge to hug her and make everything okay. Cue Oliver and I was just as enthralled by him as she was. He was a man with a past not much different than her own. Difference is, he's living his life and she isn't.

At one point, I found myself screaming at Liberty to be strong, to stick up for herself. It hurt to see her be bullied by her family and bow down to them. Oliver gave her the strength to think for herself and not do what everyone else wanted her to do.

The romance between Liberty and Oliver was scorching! It was full of that anticipation that leaves you breathless and begging for more. So many moments that leave you gripping onto the edge of your seat only to have a bucket of ice water dumped on your head. This was intense and full of real problems. I've had a problem connecting to characters lately and this was not the case with this book. The book is appropriately titled since I found myself loving the person that Liberty became. Or should I say the person that was there all along. She just needed that push. Seriously, you need to pick up this book as soon as it comes out.

A homesick Aussie living amongst the cactus and mountains of Arizona, Belinda Boring is a self proclaimed addict of romance and all things swoon worthy. When she's not devouring her latest read, you can find her celebrating her passion for books on her blog The Bookish Snob.

With all that excitement, it wasn’t long before she began writing, pouring her imagination and creativity into the stories she dreams. Whether urban fantasy, paranormal romance or romance in general, Belinda strives to share great plots with heart and characters that you can’t help but connect with. Of course, she wouldn’t be Belinda without adding heroes she hopes will curl your toes.

Surrounded by a supportive cast of family, friends and the man she gives her heart and soul to, Belinda is living the good life. Happy reading!
