Review: One Thousand and One Nights by Ruth Browne
Blarg. This cover of this book is very tantalizing and I ran to pick up this book. Zombies, end of the world, storyteller for the main character… duh! The first few portions of the book take off in action and are interesting. I wondered what the heck was going on and why the heroine, Sheri, was so desperate to find stories. Flip though the storyline a bit more and she’s an anomaly trying to protect her sister, but hated by the compound they found refuge in. Okay. I can go with that.
Then the book just jumps off a cliff without a parachute. The flow of the story was awkward and hard to understand. I did not get her relationship with Aleksy. All of a sudden they are making out even though he is repulsed by Sheri and keeps her locked up like a freak pet monkey in a cage. I feel if the story had more meat (details) to beef up the middle/later parts of the book, it could have survived its initial plunge off the awkward cliff.
Note: I received a copy of this novel in return for an honest review from Entangled Publishing via netgalley.com.
