Review: Enigma Black (Enigma Black #1) by Sara Furlong Burr

Think sci-fi, lost romance, and lots of fighting sequences mixed together to create an action packed dystopian novel. Starting as a normal, spoiled teenager, Celaine Stevens' life ends at 17 with the death of her family. Years later, she is faced with leaving the love of her life or getting revenge on the mad man who killed her family; the mad man who continues to wreck havoc in the United States with terroristic bombings and killings.

The novel follows her choice and its consequences. After disappearing from her nearly perfect life, Celaine's choices shove wedges into the lives of her boyfriend and best friend with possibly deadly consequences. Celaine's new abilities put her face to face with The Man in Black and an epic battle is fought to save the life of her lost love and hundreds of others. Facing yet another tragic loss, Celaine gets lost in depression and following her new purpose to bring down The Man in Black.

This novel is packed with a ton of action and adventure with just a taste of tragic love. I enjoyed the sarcastic heroine and her twisted story. The author does an excellent job of character building and I look forward to continuing Celaine's story.

Sara "Furlong" Burr was born on February 1, 1982, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. At an early age, when it became apparent she wouldn't have the luxury of skating through life on her looks or athletic prowess, Sara found her true passion in writing. While in fifth grade, she wrote her first "novel"(whose name escapes her at the moment) about five friends who win a trip to Hawaii. At ninety-something pages, it was her crowning achievement during her childhood (you may now begin drawing your own conclusions on how sad a childhood Sara actually had).

After focusing much of her adult life on her family and career as a paralegal, Sara found the voices in her head becoming unrelenting and she returned to her true passion. Currently, she's working on the sequel to Enigma Black entitled Vendetta Nation. She's also tossing around ideas for a chick-lit book about two ill-fated lovers (Lord, help her).

When she's not writing, Sara enjoys reading (pretty much a given), attempting to garden, shopping (prerequisite to being a woman), and spending time with her family and friends who somehow manage to tolerate her numerous disappearances propagated by infrequent bouts of inspiration.

Review: The Diary of Edward the Hamster 1990–1990 by by Miriam Elia and Ezra Elia

Edward the Hamster is a furry ball of angst, trapped in his prison, but determined to live his life. Darn it. Edward the Hamster is a quick but hilarious read of the daily adventures, not so adventures, romance, and observations of Edward.
Throughout the illustrated diary entries, Edward contemplates the meaning of death and life, and why his captors are so odd. Fun book for anyone who’s ever owned a furry little hamster and wondered went on in their little minds and souls.

Review: The Man Without Rules by Tyffani Clark Kemp

Lord have MERCY!! Where do I begin? How can I properly convey how utterly fantastic this book was? I was all hot and bothered almost 90% of this book for crying out loud! I very rarely read erotica that involves any sort of fetish. I find that they are very...what's the word....over-exaggerated. I may be wrong but I know nothing of play and all that jazz. It was the total opposite with this one. I felt strangely connected to both of these characters that had such depth to them. It's very rare that I love both characters in the story. There's usually something about one of them that pisses me off. These two...perfect! Sebastian Boa isn't just the man whoring model that everyone makes him out to be. There's a soft side inside that hard shell and you get to see bits and pieces of it along the way. That man is a walking orgasm. And did I mention that he has a floor to ceiling library? Oh, I didn't? :::queue panty drop::: Mariss Red definitely has some spunk to her. How she could resist not humping that man was beyond me. Goodness gracious, I feel the need to fan myself just thinking about the sexual tension between these two.  But Mariss is a married woman with no intention of leaving her husband. Steel resolve....more than me. I was a puddle of goo.

The best part about this book is that it was everything but predictable. I had no idea where this relationship was heading and it certainly did not end up where I thought it would. I sometimes have trouble with books and their "timeline," so to speak. Some books just seem rushed. The Man Without Rules was a fine wine aged to perfection! I could almost feel Sebastian's walls crumbling down the more time he spent with Mariss. It started off with a sex scene that will have you panting! There was a lot of that angst that I so love in my romance novels. Seriously...these two together are sizzlin'! I always appreciate an author that can write these steamy masterpieces that keep me begging for me...and I did...beg that is. She better write fast.

Review: Lost Love(Anthony Brothers #2) by Harmony Bryce

I was asked to review this book by the author. I usually steer clear of reviewing such short books because I don't enjoy them as much as a full length novel. That being said, there wasn't much that I enjoyed about this one. It was really too short to have any sort of relationship with the characters. I wish there would have been more detail about their past. It's also one of those sweet romances but it was really lacking in that department. It could really use another 200 pages to really go in depth with the characters and their love for each other. Frankly, I just don't see it. I hate to say this but it was rather boring.

Review Short: Adrasteia: A Prequel (Eternelles 0.1) by Natalie G. Owens and Zee Monodee

Adrasteia 'Adri' Dionysios, daughter of a god, has roamed the world as she pleased for many lifetimes. After a night about town with a relative, she feels lonely. Poof. Wishes and the magic of others' burst a child of flames into her arms. Sudden mommyhood! (Being a mother myself, it sure doesn't work that way... or that easily). This novella explains the beginning of Adrasteia's motherhood and birth/no birth of her daughter  Seraphine. Simple, easy introduction to Seraphine's entrance into this world and the start of her adventures.

Review: Bikers and Pearls by Vicki Wilkerson

Sweet love story set in the south involving two people who couldn't be more opposite... and alike in some ways.

The story was very sweet and I enjoyed the chemistry between the two characters. April Church is an uptight country club wannabe trying to gain membership into an exclusive ladies club. Bullworth, "Bull", is a hard working gentleman in biker's gear with a sore heart.

In her efforts to gain membership, April attends an event to drum up ideas for fundraising for a sick child. Present are her stuffy country club group and a bunch of burly bikers. Anna starts the meeting off with a bike mysteriously falling and being damaged. Thus starts her crazy adventure with bikers, Bullworth, and romance.

The story was a little slow in the start, but picked up as the two lovebirds started to acknowledge their attraction together.
There were a few parts that made me crack up, and I appreciated that the author took the time to build the romance without the couple jumping right into bed together like some romance novels. Both have to overcome their personal prejudices and those of others around them if their romance will become reality.

Quick and easy romantic read.

Review Short: All I Want For Christmas by Ros Clarke

Having worked with elderly and their families in the past, I was easily attached to Anna’s plight. This is a sweet, short romantic story between Anna and Hugh. Hugh has pursued Anna over a period of time to only be rejected once again. When he learns why she’s been hiding away from romance, Hugh quickly embeds himself into Anna’s life like a real life knight in shining armor. This was a very easy read but entertaining. A sweet holiday read if you need a simple romantic pick me up.
