review
Malcom had much to live for including being second in command of his wolf pack and a future match with the leader’s sister. But, of course, love said no way and he fell for a human. Punished and sentenced to exile by the vindictive leader of the pack, Malcom heads out alone. Living a solitary life until he finds comfort in a family owned bed and breakfast, his exile comes to a quick end when he seeks out revenge for their death and on the request of someone from his past.

Malcom heads out to find the vampire he once saved and had a steamy, forbidden night with. Thus begins the love hexagon. Mwaha! In between Malcom getting involved with trying to save his previous pack and prevent an all out war between wolves, vampires, and wolves against their own kind, Malcom leaves a string of panting female hearts. Vampire, human, wolf…

Malcom is one tough, yet compassionate cookie with a lot of baggage. Malcom is confronted with the insane Vincent, death, and his past. And having sexy time… lots of sexy time… with different people. Like I said, there is a love hexagon, but it meshes with the story and doesn’t detract from the story. Malcom is an easily likeable hero and the storyline and paranormal world building create a nice back drop. I did eventually shake my fist at Malcom, ready for him to finally choose SOMEONE and stop messing around, and he did. A nice surprise, though daunting task for our hairy hero to complete ties up the story.

I am a young mother who at one point gave up on my dream to be a writer because everyone told me there was nothing in it for me. After having my son, I questioned, how can I inspire him to follow his dreams, reach for the stars, if I do not do it myself. Yes I have made some mistakes, slip ups and all, (some very embarrassing), but instead of tucking my tail between my legs and running away to hide, I stepped back a bit, cleaned up my act and now I am hitting the pavement hard. I am inviting all who are interested to come along with me on my journey as I seek to grow and improve as a woman, a mother, and a writer.

Set between New Orleans, Manhattan, the dream state, and memory, SAINTS IN THE SHADOWS begins with Maud Strand sleepwalking from her apartment in Manhattan to the Chinatown police station in February in her bare feet and pajamas. She's had prophetic dreams since she was a child and now they've started again in Manhattan.
Maud Strand, a New Orleans to New York transplant, is mourning the loss of the her father in a car accident. Maud has a secret from that day, a secret buried so deep in her psyche that she can't even remember it, but it's running her life. She's drifting in New York when she meets Lina Sandor aka Madame Budska a physicist turned psychic-to-the-elite. Madame Budska's clients are a billionaire hedge fund manager, a political kingmaker, a TV celebrity, and a crazy Princeton professor. Is she a "real" psychic or a charlatan? Actually, she's a bit of both, and she's also very kind.
After a few months' acquaintance, Lina asks Maud to take over the Madame Budska business while Lina goes off for what she calls "the big reveal." She trains Maud to "listen until you hear", "look until you see." It's the acts of listening and watching, and the dreams she has from those experiences, that help Maud unlock her mind and remember the secret that has kept her adrift in grief.

review

I reviewed "Everything is Everything" by Pepper Pace from the "Scandalous Heroes Box Set."

** Four Stars **

I'm not usually one for stories set in the recent past. This novel takes place in the 1970s-1980s in the poor section of time, or the "ghetto" as noted by the book. The first part takes place in Vanessa's early teens, living on the upper side with her mother who works two jobs. She has her school, homework, best friend who's her cousin, and a gang of girls to hang/protect her. She meets and crushes on the only white fella, Scotty, whose hard core older half brother runs the drug trade. It follows their ups and downs in the crazy hard, but sometimes sweet life in their neighborhood.
Second part covers the later teens to early adulthood of Vanessa turning 18. Living with another relative due to a past tragedy, her life has been completely separate from those she grew with. Attending an arts school, having an amazing voice and an amazing future don't stop Vanessa and Scotty's love from happening all over again.
Seriously sad, true, and no holds on the reality, I surprising could not put this book down. It's a definite portrayal of what it must of have been to live in the neighborhood, trying to get out from a cycle of poverty, and loving someone who is outside the norm. Vanessa’s innocent and gentle spirit shine through the book as a backdrop to Scotty’s desperate survival for goodness. Reader, if you like reality and don't mind learning how "everything is everything" for real, pick up this novel!

Nova Reed used to have dreams-of becoming a famous drummer, of marrying her true love. But all of that was taken away in an instant. Now she's getting by as best she can, though sometimes that means doing things the old Nova would never do. Things that are slowly eating away at her spirit. Every day blends into the next . . . until she meets Quinton Carter. His intense, honey brown eyes instantly draw her in, and he looks just about as broken as she feels inside.

Quinton once got a second chance at life-but he doesn't want it. The tattoos on his chest are a constant reminder of what he's done, what he's lost. He's sworn to never allow happiness into his life . . . but then beautiful, sweet Nova makes him smile. He knows he's too damaged to get close to her, yet she's the only one who can make him feel alive again. Quinton will have to decide: does he deserve to start over? Or should he pay for his past forever?

I don’t even know where to start….this books started off strong with a really sad premise. What I thought would be a book about their self-discovery and finding happiness turned out to be a really fricking annoying wahhhh woe is me story. More like self-loathing. I get it. You had some bad ish happen to you, and it was tragic, but when the hell are you going to get over it? It was a little excessive. Like 75% of the book excessive. Let me play you the worlds smallest violin. I’m all about character growth. If it’s that slow going I get annoyed. I want to love it, I really do. I’ve heard great things about it but it’s just not working out for me.

Let me start with the subject matter….death and drugs. My heart was gutted from the get go. I hated that these two had to go through such heartbreak at a young age. Two tragedies and completely different outcomes. I kept waiting for a plot twist that never came. For me, the content of the book doesn’t seem like something out of the norm for me but would probably be more interesting to someone that hasn’t lived that way. Maybe I’m desensitized to it and that’s why I didn’t find it as enjoyable. It was predictable.

I have a love-hate relationship with the end of this book, but I don’t think it could have saved my overall opinion of the book. Honestly, I hated most of it. Like I said, the beginning started off strong, then it was a suck fest, and the ending was awesome. Fucking cliffhangers! I normally do not oppose them but I was kinda hoping something really shitty would happen. I guess if it went where my mind wanted to there wouldn’t be a Saving Quinton. Don’t judge me. Obviously I liked it enough to continue reading the whole thing. I just kept hoping it would get better but I was left feeling disappointed. I want to read the next book just to find out what happens.

Review: The Replacement by Rachael Wade

Also in this series: The Prisoner

Genres: adult, contemporary, new adult, romance

Format: eBook

*Contains sexually explicit content and mature subject matter, including language and elements of abuse.*

A gritty New Adult drama about a young woman’s self-destructive quest to find purpose, self-worth, and love in a broken world.

My name is Elise Duchamp. I’m twenty-three years old and I’m known as the town whore.

No, not the kind who exchanges sexual favors for money. The other kind. The kind who gives it all away for free, whenever and however she likes. I am that girl. The one everyone whispers about and the one none of the girls seem to like, because all of their boyfriends either want to sleep with me or already have. Promiscuity is my thing—the kind that slowly, violently turns my insides black, but gives me something I need.

All things considered, I’m not completely reckless. I’m safe, and contrary to popular opinion, I do have a heart. I live in a world of careless choices, and with those choices come careless people. I cannot judge them, because I am one of them. I too bow down to the altar of the self-serving. I am not a good friend. I am not and never could be anyone’s girlfriend. I’m convinced any goodness in me shriveled up and died long ago.

But I am a replacement. That is something I know how to be, and this is a story of the lengths I’d go to in order to keep it that way.

Well….here we are. I’ve attempted to read this book 3 times now. This being the third. I cried the first two times any only got to 25%. This may be the hardest review I’ve ever written. I can’t go into it without giving away something personal from myself. Very rarely does a book have content that hits a little too close to home for me. I started it around the time when I was most vulnerable and it gutted me. I didn’t want to read it. I didn’t want this character that behaved the way she did to get her happy ending. I wouldn’t even stick around to see if that happened. Yes, I know it’s fiction but it’s the principle. I just picked the book back up…picking up right where I left off. I thought it would be time for me to face my fears. The sadness is gone but now I feel anger.

Misplaced feelings….it’s a goddamn book! I just made it through! I finished it! I may not have conquered my fears but my head and heart feel so much lighter. I think I needed this book. It put things into perspective for me. This character had a reason for doing what she did, and I accept that. Once I got over my own feelings I was able to enjoy this book and even like this character that my mind says I should hate. I’m glad she got her HEA. The more I think about it, everyone deserves their HEA, even people that do crappy things. We’ve all been there but it’s like I always say “different strokes for different folks.” People do bad things but you never know what their story is. I can’t go and spoil the story but their is a point at the end that made it all make sense. This was more cathartic than anything else for me. I appreciate it more than the author will ever know.

I started off hating Elise Duchamp…. I wanted to go into the book and rip her blonde hair off. Again with my misplaced anger. I was more mad at her than the guys she was sleeping with. Once I got to about 40% I was loving it. She was changing and that Ryder is goddamn scrumptious! I remember the exact moment that made it a wrap for me….this line from Ryder. “You’re still a little piece of heaven, baby,” he pants against my mouth, “even if your halo’s broken.” Yup….dead. I love these two together. It wasn’t all lovey dovey either…. It was raw and intense. I’m really excited to read the novella from this series, The Prisoner, which releases this week!

Review: Evolution: Hex by S.A. Huchton

Title: Evolution: Hex
Author: S.A. Huchton
Series: The Evolution Series (#3)
Genre: Adult Superhero Romance
Publisher: Self Published
Release Date: July 6 2014
Edition/Formats: eBook & Print

A lie is a prison without bars.
A captive of the enemy, Candace is forced to confront mistakes and regrets from both sides of the battlefield, including her own. Nothing is simple, and lines in the sand that were once clear have become blurred and indistinguishable. Even the unlikely love she found teeters on the edge of uncertainty.
The truth is not always what it seems, and can be a prison of its own.
Alone, she must decide where she stands. Alone, she must decide who to trust.
When the smoke clears, what’s left might not be much…
But it might be enough.

S.A. Huchton brings the modern super hero to life in “Evolution: HEX”! In book #3 of the series, we meet up with Candace after the last battle the team faced against HEX. In the end of the last battle Candy was kidnapped by HEX operatives, and taken back and held captive in their holding cell. Originally, she was held against her will and drugged, in an attempt to subdue her and get answers, but then is later released when she agrees to help. Candy agrees to help because she soon realizes all that she has seen and known isn’t the way she wants her life to be. Candy always believed that super heroes were meant to help protect the innocent and not to be created for selfish purposes. In this book we finally meet Dr. Ferdinand, and her original motive for capturing Candace. She is using Candace to find her son. Apparently, Dr. Ferdinand’s son is being held in the Angel facility some where deep underground and is used as a practice “dummy” for the gauntlet, but Candace sees that weather or not a person’s transformation works they are still human and should not be miss treated. In this action packed super hero love story, your mind and spirit become enthralled with the characters and their attempts to make being a super hero a way of life and living. I recommend this whole series to anyone that enjoys a good romance, or super hero story. I truly enjoyed the series and hope to read more books by the author. I give it 5 stars out of 5.

Melody Grace returns with her sexiest book yet!

*This book contains adult situations and explicit content. 17+*

UNINHIBITED is part of the Beachwood Bay series, but can be enjoyed as a stand-alone novel.

First impression- OH GOD YES! Give me more! I usually complain when a books starts off hot and heavy but it worked for this one. That first chapter was DAYUMMMMM. It’s like “hook, line and sinker.” I can always appreciate a book that has me hypnotized from the very first chapter. I went on thinking I was going to get more of the same, only to be met with an ice cold shower. But that didn’t last long either. It was an introduction of sorts…what went on to get where they are today.

Alicia is pretty much in love with her best friend since college. I cant say what happened but that whole situation is a train wreck waiting to happen. I feel like coming. I’m reading on waiting for the proverbial “shit to hit the fan.” Where’s the popcorn? I need some. Moving along…. This incredibly hot rock star that we had the pleasure of drooling over meeting in chapter one offers Alicia a way out. Stay with him for a week and forget about her friend. Oh what a wonderful week it will be! Their chemistry is WOWZA and HOT DAMN! Just when things are peaking, here comes that bucket of ice water. I’m actually laughing about it. But not because it’s funny. It’s like the equivalent of blue balls.

So the much anticipated scene has just come up and I’m feeling several things…. hurt, love, loss, and sorrow. Holy crap! That’s all I’m gonna say there. I just finished the book!!! Geez, I’m all filled with sunshine and butterflies. It’s disgusting but I love it! Uninhibited is like having the best lay of your life followed by a cigarette kinda good…nice and sated. Lots of smexy stuff going on there! People, this is a must read!!!

Review: Second Chance at Forever by Mary A. Wasowski

review

I thought I would try something different with this review. My memory is so shoddy and I'm always left with lack luster reviews since I forget half the crap I wanted to say. This book deserves every glorifying moment and I hope I do it some justice. I finished book one on Monday and felt this overwhelming NEED to read this one as soon as possible. I'm not normally a marathon reader but Reese and Walker's story touched my soul so deeply that I had to have it. I was prepared to beg for it and was so thankful to have it sitting in my mailbox yesterday morning.

After the last book left me emotionally crippled, I look forward to seeing what was in store for these two. The bonus prologue fast forwarded 17 years. 17!!! I couldn't wrap my brain around that. I felt this empty sadness for the two of them. I wanted to know why they didn't go after each other, not knowing my questions would soon be answered. How much heartbreak and these two endure? I'm not even 15% through and I'm hit with two more zingers. I don't think my heart can handle this. I'm sitting here anxiously waiting for the moment these two are going to meet again. The turn of events that lead up to their chance encounter are astounding! It felt like coming home. I'm so giddy I'm like a happy clapping seal!

At this point I'm still recovering from the whiplash from book one. Emotions are running high in this book. I'm so happy for the chance for these two to get their happily ever after but at what cost? You know what....it doesn't matter. I will root for these two any day. I just finished the book about 5 minutes ago and for the second time this week I'm crying my eyes out. At least my heart is not shattered this time around. I didn't think there was any way to top the emotions I felt in book one. Damn, I'm crying again. GOD what can I say about Walker? He's so frickin perfect. Can I just grab him out of the pages and keep him forever?

I have to share these quotes from the book because I'm a sucker for Walker. And might I add that I NEVER highlight as many passages as I have with this one. Oh boy! Here you go:
"Keep the stilettos on and your eyes open. I want you to watch me make you come"

WHAAAAAT I just about creamed myself. Excuse me while I make myself putty in your hands.
"I knew I could never be without her again. Reese was my drug, and I will always crave her."

Seriously? Can this man get any sexier? I'm prepared to beat you all off of him with a bat.

My journals were filled with the rants of a teenager finding her way, and eventually they turned into poems, and short stories. Joining the indie community of so many talented writers has been a wonderful experience. I am so thankful for all of the love and support I have received.

Life can take you down many different roads, but I truly believe this is where I am supposed to be now. I want to inspire my boys to never give up on your dreams. I never did, and here I am. I am officially an Author.

Write what you love. Love what you write. Believe in your story. You have many chapters to write on your journey...

review

“Secret and Lies” introduces readers to a more mature, but slightly bitter Cassie. After being cast aside for her family for some pretty shoddy reasons and bound to a powerful, broody dude (Evan) by a life debt… well, she has plenty of reasons to be a little prickly. Out of a job and living with a friend, Cassie eventually tries out a waitress gig while supporting her buddies through some rather surprising news, and trying to avoid Evan. So, maybe waitressing isn’t our unmagical heroine’s cup of tea, but she is suddenly thrust into a magical underground world of women from magical bloodlines sold and traded like chattel.

Hired by Evan to help him find a teenage family member who disappeared with a buddy at summer camp, Cassie and Evan are constantly fighting for their lives and their hots for each other. Explosive events of the magical and personal kind keep the fire sizzling between the pair, but a foretold heart breaking event is just on the horizon. Family pasts and secrets will be exposed.

The story revolves mostly around Cassie, her family, and Evan, but touches on supporting characters and their struggles and lives.

A fun paranormal mystery. From book one to book two, I felt the author's style of writing and her characters themselves matured. The multiple story lines might be a little distracting sometimes and rabbit trail from the original story, but that might lead to some side stories in this series. Easy read for a summer afternoon. I listened to the audio book kindly provided by the author for review and the narrator was excellent.

Christine Amsden has been writing fantasy and science fiction for as long as she can remember. She loves to write and it is her dream that others will be inspired by this love and by her stories. Speculative fiction is fun, magical, and imaginative but great speculative fiction is about real people defining themselves through extraordinary situations. Christine writes primarily about people and relationships, and it is in this way that she strives to make science fiction and fantasy meaningful for everyone.

At the age of 16, Christine was diagnosed with Stargardt’s Disease, a condition that effects the retina and causes a loss of central vision. She is now legally blind, but has not let this slow her down or get in the way of her dreams.

In addition to writing, Christine teaches workshops on writing at Savvy Authors. She also does some freelance editing work.

Christine currently lives in the Kansas City area with her husband, Austin, who has been her biggest fan and the key to her success. They have two beautiful children.
