Emily's life turns upside down just when it just started to become bearable and the only upside is the one guy to catch her interest since the summer--Alex Payne. It was really hard for me to pick on what to give this book. Do I rate it a 4 or do I drop it down to a 3? So I am going to with a 3.5, right in the middle. I did enjoy reading how Emily went from a destructive teenager to one who has began to build herself up and be a bit more of an adult. Being as she is 17 going on 18. She has gone through the whole sex, drugs, alcohol, partying scene and hanging with the wrong crowd. Now even though the story was good, it was at hard times to get really into and seemed a bit out there for me. Along with that there were a bit more misspellings than there needed to be.
Emily is a 17 year old who when she was younger had something tragic happened to her. Which has caused her to be self-destructive. With Emily trying to forget her past, she pretty much starts sleeping around and all the secrets from then start to come out into the open. These are secrets that Emily wished people would have told her.
I did laugh at how Emily had nicknames for everyone and her phone had different ring tones to match her friends. Pretty neat idea. Emily bothered me a bit, when the unthinkable happened I did feel for her. But then she decided after I don’t know how long to go and search for this individual. I found that to be weird, because all she did was go to her friend’s house to figure out if the person went to school with her or not. She didn’t do really any investigating I felt. Another thing that bothered me was the whole subject of “what happened during the summer.” It was brought up multiple times and when it was finally told to us it wasn’t as hectic as I thought it would be. Yes it was pretty bad when it was described. But I figured it would be something ten times more.
More questionable things within the story Emily makes a comment to herself that she needs to be on birth control if her and Alex are going to be doing this. But yet why wasn’t sure on it before? I mean if you are having sex with different guys or previous boyfriends you would think to be on it?
Now lets move on to Alex. Alex is the boy who pretty much keeps to himself, that is until he meets Emily. Emily and Alex are pretty much soul mates, and they remind me of how teenagers are now a days. They hump like rabbits or at least can’t keep their hands to themselves. But to me Alex seems shady, he is super duper rich but there is just something that is not written that makes me question him a bit. Two of Emily’s friends Mark and Christy they play a big part in Emily’s life, but you never truly get to know who they are. Which I would have liked a bit more back story with them.
All the characters were okay. There were a few that bothered me or didn’t act like they should have. It just seemed a bit weird like they were flat characters for me. I do love Emily’s brother as he is protective and always there for her.
After reading until the end I do want to read book two to see what else is going to go on into Emily’s life. Will her and Alex stay together? What is this secret that Tiffany has? The ending is a bit of a cliffhanger but nothing that is too major of one.
