Among the Dead by Ryan Colley

 Available via Kindle Unlimited
Title: Among the Dead (part 1)
Author: Ryan Colley
Pages: 276

"My name is Sam. Alice, the love of my life, lives 170 miles away, and she's stopped answering the phone. So, I'm leaving the safety of my home to see if she is OK.

A simple journey. Except the roads are abandoned, the cities are quarantined and London is in a state of evacuation.
I have a plan. Not only do I have a plan, but I've seen enough apocalypse films to prepare. I can be the hero Alice needs. I have to be...

170 miles, over 50 million potential zombies, and Alice won’t pick up the phone... oh yeah, the dead have started walking.

Just another day in England."

So the author had asked if I would review this book months ago. I never got around to it, and when I saw it on Kindle Unlimited, I jumped at the chance to read and review it. I enjoy a good zombie story, but this one was just okay for me. Our main character is an average guy with nothing extraordinary, which is always great. I always like to see the everyday people in the story do normal things instead of having this extensive background that you scratch your head going, okay we know they will survive. Our main character is determined to travel to his girlfriend's home to see if she is okay, as she is not answering her phone. This is Sam's journey to Alice, it is not going to be an easy trip which we don't expect it to be, but at the same time, I want to know what caused the zombies? I am always big on why this happened, and this was not touched, which may be brought up in the next book. I loved the England setting and how the author described how the zombies were not all the same. Just felt the story lacked something for me, and I could not put my finger on it. We were left with a cliffhanger, and I am interested to see if Alice is still alive in book two.

I always enjoyed reading fictional worlds, but creating my own was always my passion. My Year 8 English teacher told me I should pursue writing after a short story I had written for a school project. I don't know where my love of zombies comes from, but it just happened, and now it is my life.

Things changed and life moved on, but even while I was graduating with my bachelor's and master's in Psychology, I still wrote stories and I still loved doing it. Writing is my passion, and everything else I do is a means for me to carry on with that passion.

I'm also prepared to move to a secure location at a zombie's notice ... If you've gotten this far, please leave me a review and message me; I love hearing what people think!
