If you’re one of my blog followers, you may have noticed that my reviews have been non-existent for quite a while. I could sit here all day and try to explain why but you don’t hear that lol. It’s hard to be a reader and a reviewer when you’re a single mom working multiple jobs. I recently attended UTOPiA Con in Nashville, TN and there’s just something about being there that renews my soul. I realized that I missed making connections with these authors and reading their books. I had to find a way to make it all work and so I decided to try something a little different.

I was trying to decide which book I wanted to read next. I’ve attempted to read 18 books this year and could only make it to the halfway mark. I started to make a list of what I loved reading(genre, specific titles, etc.) So I did what I used to back in the day…I went back to 2011. That was the year that started it all. I was never really a big reader but something changed for me. I found my genre. You can blame Shelly Crane for that!

So I decided to hit up Goodreads for my next read. I haven’t done that in a very long time. When you look up a book, off to the right hand corner you’ll see “Readers Also Enjoyed” with covers and a link to see more books that are similar to the book searched for. I was searching for books similar to Significance by Shelly Crane…the book that hooked me. Insert Reckless Magic here! I’ve had the book sitting on my kindle shelf FOREVER and figured there’s nothing to lose, I’ll read it.

Star-crossed lovers is my all time favorite theme…like EVER! I came into this book without any expectations and just hoping it wasn’t another DNF. I found the magic again! This book makes my all sorts of happy…like rainbows, butterflies, and unicorns happy LOL. I really like how the relationship between Eden and Kiran is kind of all over the place from the beginning. And the fact that it wasn’t “insta-love” makes me reaaaally happy haha. Not that I don’t believe in insta-love, but it really wouldn’t have suited the characters. It was more along the lines of insta-like….you know, when you first see someone and you’re like daaaaaamn they’re really hot, but then they kinda piss you off haha. Their whole relationship was emotional whiplash for me…for serious!

I really enjoyed the supporting characters as well. I almost always have a character or two that I cannot stand just because of the way that they’re written. I didn’t find that here. Obviously Seraphina made me want to slap the ish outta her but that’s how you’re supposed to feel about her. I loved every single character that was brought to life.

I’ve been waiting for a book that sucks me in with magic and intrigue. I loved learning about their world and not feeling overwhelmed with information overload. When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it. It has been a while since I’ve read a book as fast as I have this one. I even went and purchased the first collection right after so I could hop right into it. It has been a long time since I’ve binge read an entire series so I’m kind of excited to explore more of the second book. I really want to know why I waited 5 years to read this book!
