Miki Radicci is back on assignment for Elite, a group of psychics that help law enforcement. She’s asked to experience the death of a burnt body. This time police are not involved. The Board of Directors behind Tel-Com, the corporation that funds Elite, is the client. She soon discovers that they have no interest in the burnt body but who the body saw at the time of his/her death: a twelve year old Japanese girl.Rating:
Does the client want the little girl dead or are they trying to help her? And why is she so important?
Not taking any chances, Miki finds mysterious little girl and protects while being hunted down by a trio of dangerous sisters who have a paranormal way with fire.
Here we go again with Miki and her adventures. This character is one that I have come to really enjoy she doesn’t really think of herself when she goes to save someone, she always thinks about the person first.
So a bit about Miki if you haven’t read the other books yet, now I feel as though this book could be a standalone if you wanted to read it like that. Though you should read the others in the series as well because they are really good. Miki is an artist but she is also sixteen and drinks heavily, she also is emancipated from her parents and lives with her Grandpa. She has had tragedy hit her hard. She has powers that can be a gift or a curse depending on how you look at it. Her powers is that she can feel pain from others and this makes her a good asset for the secret organization Elite.
In Surly girl she gets to meet a few top dogs in the Elite and they want her to use her powers to give them some information. I love how she is such a smart aleck with them especially when she meets them again later on. Now when she does this she gets a glimpse of a young girl who will need her help. It seems that someone has hired people from Elite to kill this girl but why? She is just a normal girl or so we think, we won’t get to know some answers until the very end. I love how the author puts the paranormal in these books. You have mindreads, healers, those that can start fires to reading the past by just a touch of something. It all comes together very well and to me Miki is still a mysterious person. Within this story I ended up having questions especially towards the end as Miki still has no clue as to who wants this girl dead. Now there was a nice little surprise twist that comes towards the end with Miki’s grandpa and I can surly say I didn’t see that coming. The characters are well developed and very likable even the old woman who plays a role within the story.
I plan on reading book five as I need to know what she is going to do about the surprise that was given to her.
