***3 Stars***
Jenny is scarred on the inside from one too many bad relationships. Nick is scarred on the outside by a horrendous accident that has left him hiding in the shadows. Jenny's pooch has been courted by Nick's slick terrier, and is now having puppies! Jenny seeks out the tycoon to wrangle up from vet bill money and ends up dog-napping his dog back to her home when she feels he isn't getting the attention he should from Nick. What ensue next are a few mix ups, awkward situations... and a whole lot of confessions and kissing. Cute, easy to breeze through romance with a bit of furry help.

excerpt
3D Summoned HB
I dislike having to murder someone. Kidnapping is worse. At least when I setup a kill, I know what's coming. No connections, no honesty, no surprises. Everything I say and do are just steps to luring in my victim. Once the victim falls right into the trap, the next move is swift: crushed windpipe, fatal concussion, or a good ol' fashioned headshot.
Kidnapping, on the other hand, is a little trickier. First, the victim has an opportunity to respond. I don't like this. Sometimes they cry. Sometimes they manage to alert the authorities. And sometimes they escape, usually by inflicting bodily harm on me.
Dead people don't retaliate.
The second major difference between killing and kidnapping is my conscience. I get in and out with a kill. We have no chance to bond.
Abductees require a little more one-on-one. As much as I try to keep the switch turned off, I can't help but listen to their pleas and demands. And I usually realize I'm a jerk.
That's exactly where I find myself one late afternoon in June. I prefer doing this at night, but moreover, I would prefer not doing this at all.
Instead, I have a belligerent nine year old girl sitting in the passenger seat of my Honda Accord, shackles on her wrists and ankles and a small stuffed bunny on her lap. She's eying me in a way that makes me self-conscious. Like I'm the bad guy.
Probably because I am the bad guy.

“Summoned” hops right into introducing the slightly wrong, harsh, but oh so sarcastic and funny personality of 23 years old Dimitri. Forced to kidnap a dangerously smart 9 year old by the whims and wish of his master, Karl, Dimitri is left with ferrying her to the mansion grounds his master and family lives on; he will not know of her fate. He’s an entrapped genie. Going to the nearest run down bar to drown his sorrows in cheap drinks, he meets the enigmatic and random Syd. What starts a steamy series of increasingly frequent sexy times turns into affection and a desire for a normal life for Dimitri.

Sent on increasingly gruesome and violent missions by Karl, Dimitri leaves Syd hanging one too many times with one too many questions unanswered. Having his heart torn out and trying to fend off the creepy, possessive claws of Karl’s daughter breaks Dimitri’s small hope of a normal life to pieces.

Suddenly, the story of Dimitri’s family’s bond to their masters’ blood lines starts to unravel and insane twists and turns shatter what little made sense to Dimitri in his life in the first place. Syd ends up back in his life, in the end rescuing him and freeing him in multiple ways. Syd and Dimitri’s families are twined together in such a twisted weave; the reader will wonder how all the knots can possibly be undone for the two of them to survive.

“Summoned” has a fun story line and raw, sarcastic characters. Be warned, this is an adult book with lots of steamy scenes.

Review: Redemption (Arotas #3) by Amy Miles

Buy-book-from-Amazon-button Add-to-Goodreads-buttonreviewBack when I started this series I thought it was going to be like every other YA PNR I've read. You know the type, teenage girl falls immediately in love with a boy and does stupid things. This series has gone above and beyond what I would have expected. It's definitely not your momma's romance. This series is totally bad ass. Each book gives you an inside look into a different character by alternating pov's. I feel like I know these characters so intimately and book three crushed me to my core. I said in my review for book 2 that no one is safe and book three proved that. I almost didn't believe what my eyes were reading. It was like I was in denial over the death(s) of a fictional character and I was not okay with it. Redemption was a bloody mess. I never shy away from gore but this will make some people squirm. The thing I loved about Redemption is that it was unpredictable. I had a million scenarios running around in my head and not one of them was right. I thought there would be a huge reunion between Roseline and Gabriel, but the author had other plans. Wicked plans. In retrospect, I wouldn't have had it any other way. I'm also glad that she wrote a novella after Redemption. I hate guessing what's supposed to happen next. I like to read where there author intends for it to end, not where my crazy imagination will take it.

Aris lives a quiet life with her mother and father, flying for pleasure and to dust her father’s groves. Having just turned the age when she will be assigned her life’s work, Aris is approached by a stranger offering something forbidden- a place in the war against an opposing nation. Aris is expecting to be promised to the love of her life, Calix, but her dreams are destroyed when he is sent into the military. Aris decides to do whatever she can to be with her childhood sweetheart and secretly signs up for the military, shaving her head, and going through tortuously training.
Now called Aristos, she is placed with another disguised female bunk mate in her unit. Using incredible technology that provides a holographic, realistic veil around their bodies to make them appear male, Aris and her bunkmate train and go out on a few dangerous rescue missions to find fallen soldiers. Aris is the best wingjet flyer and is summoned multiple times to save others while putting her in incredible danger. After being shot down during one mission, she is thrust into the political madness of the war, discovering one of the military leaders is not who he seems. Flying to save a captive leader, Aris is scarred in mind, body, and heart. Sent home an unfair disgrace and rejected by her childhood love, will others ever know that she helped save a country’s leader… or continue in disgrace because she was a woman, forbidden to be in the military?
Fast paced with and an easy, flowing read, this was an entertaining fantasy novel. With no adult situations other than a few hot kisses and embraces a great novel for older young adults who like strong heroines and adventure.

*** 3.5/5 Stars ***
“Stim” is the story of newly christened college student, Robert, who is on his own and learning to live as an adult with Asperser’s Syndrome (high functioning form of Autism). Overwhelmed with the dorm life, he moves in as a flat mate to with two girls. Robert starts a series of jobs and loses them just as quickly due to his frank honestly. Going to his kind doctor, Dr. Meg, he is prescribed an antidepressant that makes his soothes his depression and makes his life a bit better. After a failed party, he doubles the dose and goes on a crazy manic rampage through life for a few weeks. Using Chloe’s credit card, he purchases $4,000+ worth of stuff, including a motorbike that is quickly stolen, and a suit to win over the ladies. Rescued by Chloe, Robert returns to his normal, if stilted pace. The novel continues to follow his antics, the meeting of some unusual, mean, and friendly new people… some who surprisingly become a positive influence on Robert’s life. Number one advocate for Robert is Chloe, his bipolar, Asperser’s Syndrome diagnosed flat mate. Chloe is gorgeous and outrageous. Will their relationship flame on or flame out?
Having worked and known those on the Autism spectrum, this was a fun, kooky insight into the life of a young adult. I couldn’t image going through young adulthood again- let alone trying to understand the world in the lenses of those with Asperser’s Syndrome. Robert completely cracked me up, his personality entertaining, and struggles are cringe worthy. I cheered when he found his place in this goofy world.

utopYAawards2014logo1

This year we are letting YOU, the fans and supporters of utopYA, pick next year's theme.

If you're new to utopYA then you may not know that each year we select a new theme for the conference and awards. In our debut year, it was werewolves, and we had a full moon above the 'Y' in utopYA. In 2013, the theme was angels, and there was a halo above the 'Y' in utopYA. This year, 2014, as you have probably guessed by now, the theme is aliens with the tagline #TakeMeToYourReader. There is a spaceship hovering above the 'Y' in utopYA.

As I was thinking of themes for our 4th year in 2015, I decided it would be more fun to have all of you help.

So, please let us know which of the following theme AND tagline you prefer by voting in the form below!

*** 3.5 Stars ***

Four kids are thrust together in a supposed medical study to assist with memory loss research for their memories- each of them never forgets anything after seeing it once. Mitzi and Deuce, the eldest of the group, and Ralph and Paisley, the younger duo, start out with a wild introduction into their testing facility that nearly ends their lives including rabid dogs, drowning, and having to maneuver down a turbulent mine shaft . Meeting up with Mark, one of the leaders of the project, the kids are told that the scenarios they participate in are simulated and unreal, they will have implants stuck in their bodies to help with gathering data, and they have to participate because the money for their participation has already been cashed for their parents. Mitzi has undergone numerous studies and horrendous abuse and is immediately suspicious. After finding a way to infiltrate the facility, Mitizi and Deuce are able to find out the sinister nature of the research project after a deadly, supposedly simulated caper in the U.N. office. After multiple deaths, a crazy encounter with Mark and his technologically disturbed daughter, Mitzi and Deuce flee for their lives.

This was a great young adult sci-fi that younger and older readers will enjoy. It wasn’t an intensely stimulating mind bender, but more of an enteraining read of what could happen if folks with the wrong ideals get a hold of the perfect weapon- others’ memories. Warning: ends on a cliffhanger!
