Excerpt~Review~Giveaway: Flutter of Luv by LM Preston

Young Adult Romance ~ Short Story

Dawn, the neighborhood tomboy, is happy to be her best friend’s shadow. Acceptance comes from playing football after school with the guys on the block while hiding safely behind her glasses, braces, and boyish ways. But Tony moves in, becomes the star Running Back on her school’s football team, and changes her world and her view of herself forever.

Excerpt

Every girl has a little ‘stalker’ in her. I know it. Poochie stalked Scotty, her secret long-time crush, and Sharon stalked Kevin. But now, I stalked Tony. Most times he didn’t see me. I’ve been really careful this summer to give him lots of space. When he played football with the neighborhood guys, I stayed out of the game. It was kinda humiliating to admit that I still watched all the games he played with the other boys from my comfy spot in the dirt under the bleachers.

My Review

Since this was a short story, I'm going to keep my description a bit shorter to avoid spoilers.

Dawn has always been a tomboy. She wears big, ugly glasses, has braces, and always wears her hair in a ponytail. She plays football with all of the neighborhood boys until Tony shows up. Dawn has never felt so flustered over a boy before Tony. As time goes on, she becomes closer to Tony, but never in a romantic way. She longs for him but believes she will always be his tomboy friend.

I'm going to leave it just like that, short and sweet.

I really enjoyed this short story. I feel that LM created a story that most teens can relate to. I felt Dawn's emotions throughout the story and that is important to me as a reader. I think it's safe to say that you could tell what that story was leading up to, but reading what did transpire made my grin like a 3 year old on Christmas day. My cheeks still hurt from smiling so darn much. I wasn't expecting the last few scenes and I was sad because I thought things were through for Dawn and Tony. I will admit that the last scene made me cry. It was an "I'm so happy, I want to hug LM" cry LOL. I would highly recommend this short story to anyone, teenager and adult. Let me just further add that Poochie, is a meanie head!! That is all... :-)
